Evolution

That's an argument for using different techniques in different places. For
what it's worth, having been using email since before Microsoft was formed,
my preference is for traditional bottom-posting in newsgroups and mailing
lists where I can organise messages by thread. In business email I prefer
bottom posting because I don't usually have previous messages easily
available to establish context.
Then there is the technique of interposing answers between previous messages. Perhaps I should also note that I've been emailing since the BBS days starting in '86, and using an Apple IIgs, and later a Win 3.1 system, and currently a Dell WinXP system and trying out various flavors of Linux (including the various ubuntu flavors using VMWare Player). In those early days of text only, we'd intersperse between previous paragraphs. Sometimes the ">>>" indicators would stretch clear across the page (when things got outta control. (Here I have to color the text) My Son in Law introduced me to Linux in the mid nineties, but I never quite got to trust it until VMWare came along. Now if I screw up I can just delete the vmdk and related files and start over. But that's OT.
I suspect that the reason why Microsoft make bottom-posting easier is
because it's a better choice for the majority of messages created in
Outlook. Of course it's still possible to bottom-post and trim using Outlook
(as this message proves.)
But since I use Thunderbird where I have a choice of bottom or top messaging, I currently have it set for top messaging. Since the thread is about Evolution, which I've not tried out yet, perhaps I'd better shut up. :)
Dave:
Here's the flaw in your strategy: I've noticed that the people who are
fussiest about bottom posting are more apt to be old time *nix
types whereas
top posters are more apt to be recent windows migrants. Guess who
is more apt
to give you a useful answer.
Fa'sure the folks most interested in the topic would give the best answers, or at least the most thought out answers. Disclaimer: I'm not even a "recent windows migrant" since I'm using VMWare to experiment with Linux.
