Yes, indeed.  I had swapped out the original GX1 CD Player for another,
and the swap proved to be defective.  Restoring the original solved the
problem.  All audio programs now work.  My thanks to those of you who
helped me along the way.  I will submit a step by step summary for
those others who are also having problems installing the Linux drivers
for the onboard Crystal CS4236B Sound System.8)
