You go to the menu System/Administration/ and start Synaptic Package
Manager. Go to menu Help and at least read the Quick Introduction,
preferably more (from "Contents"). Once you have an understanding how
package management works on an Ubuntu system, you are ready to install
kubuntu-desktop:

In Synaptic, search for the kubuntu-desktop (meta)package, then install
it. This will take a long time even if you have a fast internet
connection. Once it's done, logout and login using the Kubuntu session.

If you want you can then remove Gnome: use Synaptic again (or Adept, the
Kubuntu-equivalent to Synaptic) and uninstall the (meta)package
ubuntu-desktop. When you do this you will probably be prompted to allow
the uninstallation of many other packages, you can allow this, but you
should sanity check the list just to be sure.
Then search for "gnome" (in package names and descriptions) and remove
everything that is still installed and not needed.
