I have reread your original message. It seems to me that the location of
the boot.ini file is very weird. I do not think it should be on K:. What
you see on K: might be the backup copy, K: is the recovery partition
after all.

The boot.ini file should always be on the active partition, so check
with fdisk or something which one is active - it will probably be C:

Note that by default the boot.ini file is hidden and read-only. Follow
the steps given here to make it visible and editable:

Then add the entry for Ubuntu. Let's see if that helps
