hi ubuntu-users,

I'm using Edgy and got a Logitech G5 Laser mouse (not wireless).
Logitech doesnt offer any Linux help or drivers.

My Mouse got some extra Buttons (3), which i would like to use. I
searched the web and this list, but still got no clue how to enable
those extra buttons. as logitech mice are all similar, this issue would
be the same for all logitech mice with extra buttons.

As this Mouse is a so called "gaming grade" mouse it has a 2000dpi laser
engine. i found a tool that tunes this resolution (lomoco - available in
ubuntu repository) but it only works if i would build my own custom
kernel with some extra options.

I don't know why this hardware type isn't supported by linux (especially
ubuntu) at all. Mouse and Keyboard are essential input devices. As long
as it is so difficult for users to enable such small but important
features, Linux can never compete with classic Desktop OS like Windows
or MacOS.
Don't get me wrong - i like the Linux way, but if one plug that device
into a windows box its fully usable after 1 sec WITHOUT CONFIGURATION.
Thats what users expect from a Desktop OS.

Florian
