ClamAv: is anyone paying attention?

Long as I can truthfully say that the next Linux virus (or adware or
spyware) will be the first, I'll not worry.
Never having seen any of these beasts, what is the difference? Why are
adware and spyware not classed as viruses?
Are we off topic enough for Sounder yet?
