Getting rid of the startup splash screen (Edgy)

I didn't, but I don't really know the relationship between usplash and the
splash images.  It turns out that while my system is clearly configured to
load the splash images from kubuntu-grub-splashimage - it DOESN'T (I
thought it was just moving /boot back to my root device that had suddenly
made it start using a splash screen)!  usplash doesn't have any actual
images (ie, grub understands compressed xpms, but the usplash artwork/theme
packages just have a .so file), but I guess it must be the source of my
splash image, too.  

As for removing ubuntu-desktop - who needs it? :-)
