Just out of curiosity, is there any particular reason why you don't want
to use the Ubuntu tools (System -> Administration -> Networking)?
Granted, doing it yourself will be a learning experience (hint: look in
/etc/init.d , /etc/rc1.d , /etc/rc2.d , /etc/rc3.d ....)
