Don't have a laptop, can't say.

Cron, anacron and the like do exist in linux. This implies, of course,
not really turning it off in the first place. Granted, they could use
a GUI, but Mandriva already implemented one years ago.

TPM by any other name would smell as sweet. One of the positive
aspects of the technology, but if you encrypt it with the adequate
degree of competence it will be damn hard to read your drive on
another computer already, and that's something you can do in good old
plain Debian.

Implies that you'd need to use it. Like the "RAM defragmenter" it's an
"Unbreak my OS, please" feature. Merely fixes things. I acknowledge
that for many people, a ghosted image is damn useful (cybercafe
owners, etc.), but for the common user, see above.

I can already do that within Dapper/Edgy. "All kinds of documents"
surely means "those who conform to XPS specs. Otherwise, the magic
fairies have been hard at work.

As you say, this  is a feature that's been present in other OSes for a
while (Nautilus has Actions, OSX has Automator...)
