Nvidia driver version mis-match keeps X from running

It's the same on my box:
thomas at AMD64:~$ ls -la /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nvidia*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1466936 2006-09-18 09:28
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nvidia_drv.o
