Install from hard disk

I have a system on which I want to install Ubuntu.  It's a very new
system and not all the hardware is supported by the Ubuntu boot
kernels yet.

However I have managed to install Suse (via network) so I can write
stuff the the hard disk and so on.

Is there an option in Ubuntu (after booting from the install CD which
I *can* do) to install from files on the hard disk? What format do the
files on the disk need to be?
