Livecd distro or alternative required

Hi
I am working from a hotel room and have good amount of spare time on
weekends.
Can anyone suggest a suitable linux live cd whereby i can work on linux and
save documents on to my laptop and most important
learn programming. I am on a ibm t41 laptop. I have some books from where I
can learn programming

any other alternative similar to livecd also will be useful
