Yahoo not transmitting messages from Gaim?

My colleagues and I use Yahoo IM for work.  Lately, a lot of the
Linux-users among us have had the frequent problem that what we type
in Gaim doesn't appear on other users' clients --- I've had this
problem with other people using both the Yahoo client for Windows and
Gaim on Ubuntu.  And it seems to be getting worse.

Someone said he'd heard a rumour that Yahoo is deliberately
discriminating against non-Yahoo clients.  Anyone know anything about
this?

More important, does anyone know a way to get around it?  Is there,
for example, an equivalent of a user-agent string in Gaim that we
could spoof?
