GUI

Hello:

 

My first post; I have two questions:

 

(1)     When I install Ubuntu, the installation asks for an alternative UID
& PW. What is the 'root' password  and how to set it up?

(2)     After I install Ubuntu, how do I enter the GUI? In Red Hat it is
'startx' command.

 

FYI, I have read the documentation and have Goggled the above Q's! Thanks in
advance.
