I did the standard installation. For some reason, when I boot, I am command
level. I did try the command (listed below), I get a message that
'xserver-xorg' is not installed.

Please treat me as a complete newbie and help.

  Unless there was a problem with the video card/monitor set up in that
case log in as your user and type sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
and follow the prompts and put in the appropriate refresh rates etc
