Can not login to desktop

If you're in X, you can switch over to one of the consoles with
Ctrl+Alt+Fn where Fn is one of the function keys.

If you want to try an easy to use command-line editor, try either nano
or pico (so you would do sudo nano
/etc/default/linux-restricted-modules-common). I can't remember
offhand which is the default in Ubuntu, but I'm pretty sure that it
comes with either pico or nano. If not, you can always use aptitude to
install it.
