Not always true. In my case for example, a refresh rate higher than
60hz for 1280x1024 requires a horizontal rate higher than my monitor
is capable of.

here's the modeline for 1280x1024 at 75hz

 Horizontal Resolution: 1280
  Vertical Resolution: 1024
  Vertical Refresh Rate: 75.00 Hz
  Horizontal Refresh Rate: 80.42 KHz
  Dot Clock Frequence: 151.83 MHz

 # V-freq: 75.00 Hz // h-freq: 80.42 KHz
 Modeline "1280x1024" 151.83 1280 1360 1544 1888 1024 1024 1027 1072

My monitor (a NEC MultiSync) can only do 30 to 70 Khz. So I can only
run 1280x1024 at 60 hz.

Cheers
Frank
