Give Ubuntu (Gnome) a shot

Just install Ubuntu-desktop ( apt-get install ubuntu-desktop

Next time you boot choose the Gnome session instead of KDE.

You will still maintain all your files and stuff just different eye-candy
and Gnome apts.
