CD burner/device driver problems

I have 2 CD burners on my computer. One is a
'LITE-ON ' 'DVDRW SOHW-1693S' 'KS02' Removable CD-ROM
and the other is a
'TSSTcorp' 'CD-R/RW TS-H292A' 'TS02' Removable CD-ROM
The lite-on is a DVD burner and the TSST is only for reading and writing
CD's. I will note here that the lite-on DVD burner works with no trouble
at this point. However the TSST is giving me major problems.

This seems to have started after Friday's kernel update, when my system
finally switched to the libata device drivers and naming conventions. So
now my hard disc is /dev/sda and my CD/DVD burners are /dev/scd0
(lite-on) and /dev/scd1 (TSST).

Now whenever I put a CD in the TSST burner, nothing happens for about 45
seconds and then the PC reboots suddenly, (shades of Windows XP). I also
have the same problem if I try to blank or burn a CD in this burner.
During any of these attempts I get the following errors printed to the
console, but only if I happen to be in a text console rather than
gnome-terminal:

[ 170.208000] ata6.01: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x2

[ 242.788000] ata6: port failed to respond (30 secs, Status 0xd0)

Is this a driver issue or is my drive ready for the trash pile? I should
note that I didn't notice this problem until Saturday, but I rarely use
this drive, so it may have died before I ever noticed a problem.

Thanks for any help,
Lorenzo
