intel 82801g on toshiba p105-s6197 - no sound

as an update to my own problem, per the one forum post, it does detect the
card correctly, and it doesn't show any errors, but it doesn't play any
audio.  It's not muted in alsa mixer and all volumes are set at 100.
I have a few different options under there that i didn't have before, but
the sound doesn't come out.  Please help if you can.  If not my
wife is going to make be go back to vista.  So it really is
desperate. :-)
