How well Ubuntu (Feisty) works on a MacBook Pro

Dear list

I have been using Feisty for the last couple of months on my macbook
pro, but inside Parallels (virtualisation technology). I am starting to
get fed up with the crippled performance, and since I spend 99% of my
time inside the virtual machine I am considering installing Feisty
natively on the mac.

There are many inconsistent blogs, bugs and howtos scattered around the
Web. I have read most of them, but due to some inconsistency I can't be
sure what to expect. Not forgetting that they are mostly old, and I'm
hoping recent advances in Linux would render them inaccurate.

Some of the problems I have discovered are: loss of sound on internal
speakers; crackly sound with speakers plugged in; too low a fan speed
(overheating); EFI making life tricky; unable to use apple remote;
unable to use iCam; keyboard backlight doesn't work; monitor brightness
adjust keys don't work; very poor battery performance (due to bad power
management); no way to emulate a right mouse button;
two-finger-scrolling doesn't work; and probably others that I've forgotten.

If any one on the list has ubuntu running natively on a macbook pro, or
knows someone who has, I'd be very grateful for any feedback. Especially
with regards to how well it will work 'out of the box', what won't work,
what needs to be done to get things working, and overall impressions.

Best regards

Gabe
