MPlayer problems with new Feisty upgrade

No replies from anyone yet. I wonder if anyone else is having problems with
mplayer on Feisty? I thought I would give an update on what I have learned
and a workaround for this problem in case anyone else is having problems.

I found this page on launchpad.net detaliing mplayer bugs in ubuntu:

The first link (Distorted MP3 Sound) is similar to the problems I am having.
There seems to be a lot of people having problems with the latest version of
mplayer as contained in Feisty. This new version is 1.0rc1. The problem
seems to be with the audio. My workaround solution was to download the
previous (edgy) version of mplayer from here:

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/edgy/i386/mplayer/2:0.99+1.0pre8-0ubuntu8

install with

dpkg -i filename.deb


And then mplayer worked just fine. I will stick with the 0.99 version until
I see on launchpad that these issues have been resolved.

Hope this is of help to anyone else who has problems.
