Can't install U 7.04: port failed to respond

I'm trying to install Ubuntu 7.04, but I can't get very far into it. I
get the initial screen that gives me some choices including Install
Ubuntu. I choose Install, and after a minute or so I get a lot of text
including the message:

ata1: port failed to respond

If I try 6.10 on the same machine, there are no problems.

Anyone else seeing this problem?
