How to create network interface aliases in UBUNTU 7.04

In UBUNTU 7.04 I have not been able to create aliases for the network
interface.

I modified the /etc/network/intercaes to:

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

auto eth0:0
iface eth0:0 inet static
     address 192.168.0.2
     network 192.168.0.0
     broadcast 192.168.0.255
     netmask 255.255.255.0

auto eth0:1
iface eth0:1 inet static
     address 192.168.0.3
     network 192.168.0.0
     broadcast 192.168.0.255
     netmask 255.255.255.0

auto eth0:2
iface eth0:2 inet static
     address 192.168.0.4
     network 192.168.0.0
     broadcast 192.168.0.255
     netmask 255.255.255.0

auto eth0:3
iface eth0:3 inet static
     address 192.168.0.5
     network 192.168.0.0
     broadcast 192.168.0.255
     netmask 255.255.255.0

root at abril:~# ifconfig

I get no errors
and I can do it manually by the command:

root at abril:~# ifconfig eth0:0 192.168.0.2 network 192.168.0.0 netmask
255.255.255.0


and get:

root at abril:~# ifconfig

Can somebody provide some help here ??

By the way, it works fine in UBUNTU 6.06
