feisty upgrade fails

This message is slightly misleading.  Update manager wants "that 
much more" free room in your /boot.

What has happened is that a last-minute change to Ubuntu's update 
manager now expects at least 40 MB of free space in /boot.  The 
update manager process (for upgrading to feisty) is using /boot 
(instead of /tmp) for its "work files".  For example, on my system 
it saved a "backup initrd copy" there for every kernel.
