Are you looking for an a) newsreader for newsgroups or an b) rss-feed
reader?

If a) try Thunderbird, is really easy to set-up, does also Mail and RSS
but doesn't support things like scoring and killfiles very well (you
could fake someth. using filters).

If b) try Lifearea which is in the Ubuntu repository. Or take a look at
flock, a Firefox based browser which has a quite good rss-reader inside.
I like to have the RSS-Reader in my browser so i don't have to start
another programm if the newsfeed doesn't contain the full text.

Bye!
