    Let's see...seems like it's a matter of which theme you use; the one
with the faces will let your users put pictures (of them, or anything
else) on the GDM login screen. One of the defaults has this; mess with
gdmconfig just a bit and you'll see it.

    As to the actual avatars, I don't know; around here we use faces.
