try crtl+l
I use this a lot

Additional you can enter
about:config
then search for "urlbar" und in the "Filter" line

Different from default i have the following settings there:
browser.urlbar.autocomplete.enabled	true
browser.urlbar.clickSelectsAll		true
browser.urlbar.matchOnlyTyped		true

imho this will make urlbar in FF much more convenient.
