Not sure if recent update was successful

I started to do an update this evening using adept_updater and included in the upgrades was essential.tar.
During the upgrade, it asked me a question (I think it was an install location) and because I wasn;t sure where I wanted to install them, I thought I'd cancel this update.
Only to find no cancel button!!
So, I just closed the application.
I've done dependancy checks with apt-get and all seems okay, and apt-get tells me my system is up to date ............. but I'm not sure.
I can't find a log of downloads ... have looked in /var/cache and have had a look around /etc/apt.
Is there a log of downloads or any way of reforcing the upgrades to do it properly?
