Is it possible for you to put the output of
dmesg
somewhere and give us a link to it (the output is usually quite long).
This might give us already a small hint, what might be wrong.

PS: This email was written on a USB keyboard and will be sent in a
second with the help of a USB mouse both working under Edgy, thus in
principle it should work!
