Firefox 2 + Flash problems

My son installed Edgy on his laptop, then installed the Flash Player 7
per instructions into /usr/lib/firefox, everything looked good.
However, when any flash starts up (eg the one on the www.adobe.com
home page) it starts to load in then Firefox dies. If we remove the
plugins from /usr/lib/firefox Firefox works fine, of course w/o Flash.
We also tried installing the plugins to his user profile at ~.mozilla,
same thing, Firefox dies if it hits a Flash page.
about:plugins looks ok.
When Firefox is started from a terminal session and dies the output is:
** Message: plugin_get_value 1 (1)
** Message: plugin_get_value 2 (2)
** Message: plugin_get_value 1 (1)
** Message: plugin_get_value 2 (2)

** Message: plugin_get_value 2 (2)

The program 'Gecko' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
(Details: serial 118 error_code 8 request_code 144 minor_code 3)
(Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
Any ideas what's wrong? I know it should work, on the other 3 Edgy's
I've recently installed it worked like a charm..
Thanks
ED
