Undetected rewritable media

Hello, using here Ubuntu Edgy, though I think this happened to me already in
Dapper.
The problem is as follows: I have a computer with a DVD reader from Toshiba
and a CD/DVD writer from Pioneer, model 106D. When using blank, unused CD,
either writable or rewritable, all works perfectly. However, when trying to
burn an already written rewritable CD (either properly closed or aborted),
it goes undetected. I can't see any message in the kernel log. Trying to
manually mount says 'no media found'. It's just like the disk didn't be
there.
Inserting the CD in the reader drive sees the disk without problem. Also,
trying to burn the same media under windows in the same machine gives also
no problem.
I have tried restarting HAL, though I'm not sure if it has nothing to do,
and cold reboots to no avail. Google searches have been unsuccessful since
the search terms are very common. I don't even know if someone else has had
this same problem.
Any ideas very appreciated.
