Thanks for the suggestions Jeffrey and William.
I downloaded Knoppix earlier this morning and gave it a try to no avail
either using static or DHCP, I'm beginning to think it's perhaps the nic
itself, stranger things have happened.
I'm going to put in another nic now and see what happens as I'm at a
loss as to what happens.
I'll report back shortly.
