Please, don't be difficult.  For one, Ubuntu is the default version, and
the Ubuntu default DE is Gnome with the default file manager Nautilus.
Kubuntu, Xubuntu and Edubuntu are "related projects", check
http://www.ubuntu.com/. Kubuntu has even its own domain.

To preserve my sanity and my free time I will therefore assume that
unless someone states the contrary he uses the default
Ubuntu/Gnome/Nautilus, just as I will assume the default kernel, etc.

If this assumption is not correct then I figure it is the poster's
problem to state it in the OP and not mine to grill a poster for
possible deviations.

And re-read the original post. It certainly does not sound like someone
who switched from Nautilus to Xfe. And even if, it is again not my
problem
