upgrade and data loss

You should not lose any of your data.  Have you been good and left it in 
/home/%username%?  And how customized is your system?  Did you stick to 
the repositories?  Or have you downloaded lots of other software and 
installed custom kernel modules etc. etc.?

Also...it's never a bad idea to backup your home folder before you 
upgrade.  (hint hint...)
