Ubuntu media server Nvidia vs. ATI

I have heard Nvidia being better for Linux in the past, is this right? I
was only going to the ATI Radeon X1950 Pro due to it's direct TV out to
HDTV, and I like the VIVO feature. Would I do better to get the Nvdia
card...
