Ok, downloaded guarddog and disabled firewall in the
advanced section with sudo. Restarted both comps just
to be safe and reran all the smbmount commands. Still
getting the same error messages on all the commands:
can't determine netmask for 192.168.1.65
Could not resolve mount point /mnt/My Pictures
can't determine netmask for 192.168.1.65
Could not resolve mount point /mnt/C, etc, etc.
The windows firewall is disabled. Getting warning
message in sys tray that the windows firewall is
turned off making the system vunerable. I don't think
I have a firewall issue and we did check it out. Is
it a DNS issue? Visited my gateway home page for the
first time ever. Everything looked ok to me but what
do I know. Looked at some of the firewall
settings/setup stuff and started up(allowed)
enabled dns on both sides of the gateway(router).
Don't know if I needed to or should have done so but
did. Anyway nothing changes or maybe I just don't
know the right command to use???
Another thing I noticed but probably not significant
is that the ip address shown is different from that
shown by ifconfig. On the gateway is was
70.136.29.202(and changed again when I came back after
restart). Maybe you know if this means anything.
You said in your first reply that you have the same
setup(ATT/SBC Yahoo DSL with 2wire gateway?). If so,
is there anything I can do at the 2WIRE site to check
out the router? Everything is default,AFAICT, except
for enabling DNS as mentioned earlier. Would you mind
coping me your smb.conf file to check against mine?
Xing out anything personal, of course. Send it off
list, if you please. I'm really getting desperate
over this issue. Any other suggestions are most
welcome and solicited. Thanks so much for your help.
Well, at least my Yahoo web mail is back to text
format and the pointer are back too. Surprised that
no one mentioned top posting yet, Ha, Ha.
