Delay in loading X at boot

When I boot Ubuntu Feisty 7.04/ AMD64, there is a long delay (in which I 
just see a black screen with the cursor) between the time all devices 
are loaded and script completed, and the time I actually get my desktop. 
I have removed and reinstalled my NVIDIA driver, tried to reconfigure 
xserver, and also scanned the logs. I don't even use DHCP for my net 
connection. Could anyone help?
