VMware Server : recently stopped working on Feisty

Very odd. My vmware server is still running fine. I justy shut down a VM
and powered it up again just to be sure.

Have you tried re-running the configure script,
vmware-config-network.pl? If you've lost vmnet, for some reason, this
should re-establish it.
