Starting applications at boot

>From what I see from your description you made an error when first
installing apache on your server. Installing apache web-server should prompt
you the question whether you want apache to start automatic on server-start.
If you answer Yes to that question at the end of the install apache will
start automatic when your server boots up.

I have the very same apache-server running on my Ubuntu 6.10 server and I
was prompted the question, chose Yes and each time my server re-boots apache
starts automatically. Otherwise  you can  start  it  as  a  cron-job
