change window manager started from text mode

Try "sudo update-alternatives --config x-window-manager" and select the
number which corresponds to /usr/bin/fluxbox.

Or, since you're sitting at a command prompt and not using kdm, why not
just type "startfluxbox" instead of "startx"?
