Ubuntu + Beryl on new macbook pro

Ouch is right.

I needed a version of Eclipse that did not run on the current Java, so
I ran Ubuntu on my MacBook Pro.

Ubuntu runs fine in VMware fusion (side by side) on the MacBook Pro
just before the one they announced yesterday.  But I don't know how
VMware will offer Fusion when it is released out of beta.

Ubuntu ran in a Parallels trial http://www.parallels.com/ I haven't
tried any current version.

But hey, you should always be able to reinstall OSX with the DVD's right?
