On the eighth of this month I received this upgrade:
Upgraded the following packages:
libxvidcore4 (2:1.1.2-0.1ubuntu1.1~proposed1) to 2:1.1.2-0.1ubuntu1.1
linux-headers-2.6.20-16 (2.6.20-16.28) to 2.6.20-16.29
linux-headers-2.6.20-16-generic (2.6.20-16.28) to 2.6.20-16.29
linux-image-2.6.20-16-generic (2.6.20-16.28) to 2.6.20-16.29
linux-libc-dev (2.6.20-16.28) to 2.6.20-16.29
after which the nvidia driver for my GeForce 7600 GS no longer works.
I've changed it back to the 'nv' driver and now get only 800x600
resolution, strange since I got 1024x768 with it before. There is no
upgrade available for the nvidia driver through synaptic and I do
understand that it is proprietary so do you think I should install the
nvidia-available driver or wait for one to become available through
Ubuntu channels?
I do so miss those cool 3d effects!
