Calendar and appontments without Evolution

I use the lighting extension for thunderbird which basically integrates sunbird with thunderbird without actually having to install sunbird. Works nice since thunderbird is always open for me and reminds me of things but of course if thunderbird is closed you won't get reminders. And if you are using just straight sunbird it won't remind you unless its open.

I guess you mean: System > Preferences > Preferred applications
and set 'Mail reader' to Thunderbird mail?
This doesn't change anything. Evolution still starts up and wants my email
details to connect to my email accounts.
Has anyone tried Sunbird? Is it usable?
