Cant dial out with kubuntu

Hi all

At the moment (but not at this time), im using Kubuntu 6.06 until my 7.04 
comes in. I have dialup internet and everytime i go to connect, it 
disconnects saying:

pppd:The remote system is required to authenticate itself
pppd:but it couldnt find any suitable secret (password) for it to do so
pppd:(none of the available passwords would let it use and ip address)

Prior to that, i opened kppp to set up my phone number and user id/password 
and it told me that it could not find "resolv.conf".

Any help would be greatly appreciated. and just for the record, im using slax 
(as the regular ubuntu seems to not support my modem...its recognised as a 
ttyACM0)
