OK, 755 should work for directories and normal files, although it is not
usefull for the normal files. But in a previous mail you wrote:

| drwxr--r-- 3 root root 4096 2006-05-31 10:26 type1
That is 744 for all files -- and it will not work. Now the question is:
Did you change the permissions after you wrote that other mail? If so,
and it only doesn't work with Nautilus, I suppose Nautilus remembers that
it couldn't read the directories in question. Then you should probably
restart X (logout and login again) -- then I think nautilus will try to
read the fonts.
