what is the boot settings in your bios?
you must have cd-rom as your 1st option then Hard disk _or_ the floppy 2nd and HD last.
this way if you have a bootable cd in the drive at boot time it will be detected and (well with my boxes i've had and they are old 200mhz, 500mhz to my 800mhz) i've had to tap the space bar and cd startup by passing the HD booting.
also by having the floppy (assuming you have one) you can have an emergency boot disk but most distros have a fail-safe image you can boot from on the HD as an option from within grub or lilo.
So goto the BIOS and ensure your boot sequence is CD-rom then HD.
dave.

Just one question is your computer setup to boot from CD? If not then
go into the BIOS and do it. Or there could be a key press you could use
ie: F11 or something like that
