Sleep Mode

Whenever my Dell Inspiron 8600 goes into sleep mode, or something like
that, it won't come back up.  I move the mouse and can see the mouse
pointer, and it moves, but I only get a blank black screen.

Should I just disable sleep mode, or How can I force it to come out of
it correctly?
