Until I saw (and understood) the PC104, this was precisely what I
had in mind. The XoomPC is slick, and perfect for the guy that wants to
doodle with mp3s and maybe video in the car...and there'll be a lot of
that eventually...but the expandability is small. With the PC104, you
can add several (or just one) A/D card and your hardware solution is
done. You can switch out a 586 for the 286 you start with, or you can
add several sub-processors to an existing device. Plus, the parts, at
least on eBay, are a ton cheaper. Though I do miss the slick case...

This PC104 family has GPS modules, Cellular, and all kinds of crazy
things for general use. Including modules to hold disk-on-chip that you
can boot from, once you settle on a kernel image. Nifty!

That's a source I hadn't seen before- there's a lot of folks doing
this, these days, huh?
What I'd really like to find are some 486 X terminals...diskless,
able to connect to the various machines onboard. Or at least just a
decent LCD screen for system monitoring...
