Probably you missunderstand me, i want to know the operating-system of
the authentication-server respectively the file-server where you store
the home-directorys.

For a networkenvironment based on a windows server, take a look at this
guide:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=144F7B82-65CF-4105-B60C-44515299797D&displaylang=en

you can realize the "same" with a linux server taking OpenLDAP
[www.openldap.org].

http://www.openldap.org/doc/admin22/ <---- LDAP administration-guide
http://www.yolinux.com/TUTORIALS/LDAP_Authentication.html <---- howto
about clientauthentication against ldap

or you can take the easy way and serve the clients with a samba/ldap
http://www.nomis52.net/?section=docs&page=samldap
